The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in schools has exploded in recent years. According to national surveys of students and educators conducted by RAND, both teachers and students report using it more frequently, helping to support everything from planning lessons to completing homework to grading that homework.
However, training and clear policies for how to use AI have lagged behind. According to the RAND survey data, while 54 percent of students and 53 percent of English language arts, math, and science teachers indicated that they used AI for school during the 2024-25 school year, only 35 percent of district leaders reported that they provide students with training on AI. Half of students surveyed also worried about being falsely accused of using AI to cheat in school, a concern that might be fueled by uncertainty, with only 34 percent of teachers reporting that their school or district has policies about academic integrity and the use of AI.

In response, MGT recognizes that students, teachers, and administrators are in need of additional support and guidance on how to safely and productively incorporate AI into K-12 education, so that it supports student learning rather than hindering it.
- MGT is helping district leaders create comprehensive and strategic AI policies that are informed by what their communities want. For example, we are currently facilitating AI professional learning communities for a network of schools in Utah, we helped create an AI Advisory Council for a large district in Texas, and have facilitated multiple convenings bringing together district leaders, academics, and industry partners to share AI best practices and support them in creating AI action plans.
